About the CHS School of Engineering

Engineering is where math and science come together.  It profoundly and positively affects peoples’ lives and the world we live in. High school students may not know what they want to do when they "grow up", but exposure to engineering at the high school level can be a catalyst that changes lives. It’s a calling worth discovering!

The Coppell High School School of Engineering program began in 2006 with the support and cooperation of both SMU and TCU.  Students have the opportunity to employ the engineering design process through numerous short-term and long-term design projects and to acquire skills not usually developed until the junior or senior year of college.  These skills include:

  •          Advanced implementation of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  •          Communication skill (written and oral)
  •          Computer-aided drawing and design
  •          Familiarity with and ability to use standard scientific and engineering instrumentation
  •          Principles of data acquisition, analysis, and evaluation
  •          Programming logic and principles of computer programming
  •          Mathematical modeling of engineering systems
  •          Familiarity with engineering ethics and engineering economics and business principles
  •          Project Management Skills

The CHS School of Engineering (SOE) offers several opportunities to meet the needs of the students. Courses and activities are directed at encouraging participation not only in engineering, but also in math and science. Programs are aimed at students from elementary to high schools.
